Venue : KARM CAFE, Navjivan Trust, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad
We all know - Bapu, Mahatma, Father of Nation - these words are very common and familiar to every citizen of India. His thought process, his love and dedication for TRUTH and NON-VIOLENCE is respected globally and today almost all nations are paying homage to Bapu by different ways.
I have also studied history in my school days, I have also read history in many books and today I am also teaching history; so subjective touch is always there but yesterday I visited "KARM CAFE" - recently started modern cafeteria by Navjivan Trust where I not only saw but felt history of our independence, historical events of our own Gandhiji, his life, his efforts, his actual thoughts, his dedication, his passion for bringing public awareness, his modern thinking line (at that time this was tough) etc. I got first published print of "Navjivan" dated back 7th September, 1919. Amazing. I have no other words for this feeling. Today I went through the edition and realized why Mr. M.K. Gandhi is Mahatma. His clarity over starting "Navjivan", his modern ways of encouraging "Charkha" activity by announcing some reward, his clarity over what will be done and what never will be done - like advertisement will never be published in "Navjivan" as well as issues prevailing at that time with respect to unlawful British Government behavior for Indian citizen.
What I liked very much was as he was just arrived in India (1915) and in 1919 he is writing that as I am very much new to this land, I may not be the right person or I may not present real situation of country in right way but still I personally will try and devote my self to give upto the mark justice to this activity.
I do ate "Gandhi Thali" and felt his discipline for which he is still known. Simple, sober and soothing feeling was there while enjoying the dish.
Lot many books written on him, written by him, written by "Savai Gujarati" and various photographs were enough to hypnotize me. It was like time travel and I was in 1919s decades.
Most amazing and fabulous thing was the "typewriter" of Mahadevbhai Desai on which he was suppose to type the dictation of Gandhiji. I would say it is a typewriter on which Indian independence was typed.
One must visit this place at least once, later you will be addicted to visit it again and again.
TRUTH & NON VIOLENCE - I have nothing new to tell or teach to the world as Truth & Non-violence is prevailing since ages. - Gandhiji.
